Butterfly Framing Options   Gallery pages 1, 2, 3, & 4 offer individual butterflies in 3 different framing options, due to the various size of butterflies not all butterflies are available in all 3 options. Riker Mount w/ hanger on back - Cotton filled hard cardboard frames with a glass top. The butterflies are not glued, they are gently pressed against the glass by the cotton. Riker mounts are not sealed and can be easily opened to extract or reposition the butterflies simply by removing 2-4 pins that are on the sides of the frame. Although the riker mounts aren't sealed, the butterflies will still last for many, many years as long as you keep them out of direct sunlight. All riker mounts have a sawtooth hanger on the back and hanging nails are included with your order. Riker mounts can also be displayed on a flat surface if you have a stand to hold them. Multiple butterflies in one acrylic frame offers a lower "per butterfly" cost than individually framed butterflies as each case requires an enormous amount of work, far more than our riker mount or table top displays. How we spread our butterflies: When we receive our dried butterflies they all arrive with their wings closed. The butterflies must be carefully hydrated to allow us to spread the wings as we desire. We try to spread our butterflies so that the wings are symmetrical as possible. However, we also try to leave a small even gap between the upper and lower wings (see our pictures). There's basically 2 other faster "styles" of butterfly spreading that we believe are not as aesthetically pleasing. Some people spread the butterflies so that the upper wings are extremely high while the lower wings are very low, creating a huge unnatural gap between the upper & lower wings. Others spread the upperwings very low so that there is no gap between the upper & lower wings, making it look almost look like the butterfly only has 2 wings instead of four. Some artists don't even spread the wings symmetrically, creating a very sloppy look. Also of note is that we carefully reinforce (with a thin clear-drying glue), the wings (underside where they touch the body), head (underside) and body (underside) of every butterfly we use (in all our displays) to insure that our displays are as durable as possible. About the butterfly & product images: All closeup butterfly pictures (gallery pages 1-4) are real pictures taken by ButterflyUtopia.com with a digital camera. The backgrounds and shadows have been whitened out. Pictures of the acrylic frames are often taken at an angle to avoid glare. Many of the pictures on this site do not do these butterflies justice. Some of the butterflies actually change color depending on the angle of the light.
